Palomar IPL – Hair Removal

PALOMAR HAIR REMOVAL

A Little History On Palomar

The demand for intense pulsed light (ipl) hair removal treatments is at an all-time high. This is not surprising, considering that traditional hair removal via waxing is painful and is something you must do on a regular basis ongoing. Light-based hair removal permantely reduces unwanted facial and body hair, in fewer treatments and with more comfort than is possible with traditional procedures.

In the 1990’s Palomar pioneered permanent hair reduction after receiving the first FDA clearance for this procedure. Since then, Palomar lasers have been the industry standard that all others have been compared to, validated by Palomar’s strong patent position. Lasers, although clinically effective, have skin limitations regarding skin color, hair color and hair thickness. Subsequent new technology developments from Palomar led to new, groundbreaking pulsed light technology that improved clinical outcomes over a broader client base.

BENEFITS FOR CLIENTS

*Excellent aesthetic outcomes

*Long-term, lasting results

*Fast treatment sessions

*Advanced Contact Cooling technology to minimize discomfort

HOW DO WE KNOW THE TREATMENT WORKED

Most people will experience general redness, follicular swelling and mild skin sensitivity similar to the feeling of sunburn immediately after treatment.  Hiving is also a possibility. This is a histamine reaction and is a normal skin response. The skin will generally settle after 1-3 days, depending on the severity of the case. An antihistamine may be taken pre/post treatment to stop this from occurring. Mild browning/crusting of the skin may occur. This will flake off within 2 weeks.

IS IPL THE SAME AS LASER

Not exactly. Laser operates only on a single wavelength and theoretically adapted to a single type of skin and hair. Because of its wide spectrum, the Palomar is therefore more flexible in use than a laser.

WHO CAN BE TREATED

Darker the hair better the result. The lighter the skin the better the result too. Light and fine hairs can be difficult though can still result in some reduction. Red and white hairs cannot be removed due to lack of pigmentation within the hair.

DOES IT HURT

The sensation is like a flick on the skin. For most people a lot less painful than waxing. The feeling of discomfort is extremely variable from one person to another, it depends on the concentration of melanin in the skin, the hair size, the hair density etc. Palomar IPL equipment do have built in “cooling” devise to minimize this discomfort.

WHAT IS VISIBLE AFTER TREATMENT

In some cases redness or hiving appearance but this disappears in a short time after the treatment. However for some people there is no visibility of the above appearing.
