So a lot of people ask me how does a brazillian wax (or All Off as we call it) differs from a regular bikini wax?
Basically, with the Brazilian, hair is removed in the front, back and everything in between. Some times a “landing strip” is left in the front, but a lot of clients also opt for everything removed.
A full Brazillian wax will take us between 20-30 minutes.
If your wondering what actually happens behind those closed doors here is a run down of the procedure:
2. Because you only need about a quarter-inch of hair for the wax to grab onto, your therpist may trim pubic hair to the correct length. A general rule of thumb is that hair needs to be a quarter-inch if it’s fine, a half-inch if it’s coarse. You’ll be sent home if hair isn’t long enough.
3. The best therapists are not necessarily fast, but gentle and thorough. The therapist will dip a waxing stick into a pot of hot wax and then spread it onto your skin and hair. We use a hard wax that we have been using here for around 33 years with great results. It is formulated for us by a chemist.
It is less painful when compared the strip wax on this area. (The strip wax uses a woven paper strip which is applied over the top of the wax and bonded firmly before removing). We may use strip wax on certain areas of the bikini line if necessary.
4. Waxing usually starts at the back and moves towards the front.
Initially, you will be asked to hug your knee into your chest, then when that area is completed you will bend your knee out to the side. By applying small-medium sized sections to the area we are able to remove the hair effectively and with as little pain as possible.
5. Since the Brazilian means everything off, don’t be surprised when the technician removes the hair between the buttocks. Yes, for most people, hair grows there too. For this area we will ask you to roll onto your tummy.
6. Once the waxing is complete we apply a soothing lotion to the area then we leave you to get dressed.
7. Don’t forget to get the name of your therapist so when you make another appointment you can get the same person and then you don’t have to bare all for another complete stranger (wink). Typically, you’ll need to wax every 4-6 weeks and the more you do it, the less painful it becomes.
8. Of course- We will always talk to you about exfoliating and moisturizing to prevent ingrown hairs and dry skin. By following this advice you can be sure you will get the best brazilian wax every time!
A quick google search about Brazilian waxing reveals endless tips and advice. Unfortunately, not all of them offer the best advice. we came across this one in our travels:
“Another down side… you might experience red bumps or ingrown hairs. Apply aloe lotion to bumps.Using a pumice stone to get rid of ingrown hairs.”
Monika and I were so shocked when we read this! We constantly have clients coming in after using scourers and things that are much too coarse on areas when they just get too frustrated with ingrown hairs. Please visit our post here about how to prevent or get rid of ingrown hairs WITHOUT damaging your skin.
You could always try IPL hair removal for the bikini line, its a permanent hair reduction solution that means you wont have to come running every time you get invited to the pool’s or the beach!
